In the field of dentistry specifically, AI is being researched and utilized for a variety of purposes, such as identifying normal and abnormal structures in teeth, diagnosing diseases, and predicting treatment outcomes. This can greatly aid dentists in giving the best possible treatment to their patients, with more accuracy and efficiency than ever before.

But what exactly is AI? In simple terms, it is a branch of computer science that works towards building intelligent entities, usually in the form of software programs. In the past, AI systems were created by applying pre-set rules to specific tasks, but now, with the advancements in machine learning and deep learning, AI systems can learn and identify patterns in large datasets without human assistance.

Machine learning (ML) is a subfield of AI in which systems learn to perform tasks through exposure to examples and gradual adjustments of their parameters. For example, just like how a child learns to recognize a cat by seeing multiple pictures of cats, an ML algorithm can identify patterns in images by being shown many examples.

Additionally, AI is also being used to assist in orthodontic treatment planning, optimizing analytics and determining the best path for teeth movement.

However, there are still limitations to the application of AI in dentistry, such as access to high-quality training data. But with ongoing research and advancements, we can expect to see even more use of AI in the field of dentistry, bringing benefits to both dentists and patients alike.
